Blake Ohlson, MD

Dr. Blake L. Ohlson is an Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgeon with over 15 years of experience treating complex foot and ankle disorders. He is originally from Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated Cum Laude with a BS in Chemistry from John Carroll University in 1996. He subsequently worked as an analytical pharmaceutical chemist before attending medical school in 1997. In 2001, he obtained his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He successfully completed five years of orthopedic surgery residency training at The Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies, Michigan State University. He concluded his training in 2007 with a one-year fellowship in foot and ankle reconstruction at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. At this time, he was introduced to the use of Stem Cell Therapy for the treatment of lower extremity problems.

Dr. Ohlson relocated to Charleston in 2007 to begin practice. He served for several years as The Division Chief Foot and Ankle Service within The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Roper St Francis Healthcare. He also serves as volunteer faculty Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at The Medical University of South Carolina. He enjoys teaching and passing his experience and knowledge on to the next generation of Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Surgeons. Dr. Ohlson is also a published author and contributing reviewer for the journal Foot and Ankle International.

Dr. Ohlson joined Charleston Sports Medicine in 2022. Together with the Charleston Sports Medicine staff, they aim to bring the most advanced and comprehensive treatment options to patients looking to regain their mobility or simply maintain a pain-free active lifestyle.

Dr. Ohlson resides with his wife, Melissa, and their three children on Daniel Island. He is an avid tennis player and enjoys yoga and Peloton. He is passionate about seeing athletes reach their fullest potential. He treats young people, aging athletes seeking to remain active and competitive, and all ages of patients seeking foot and ankle pain relief.

Dr. Ohlson has performed as a multi-instrumentalist and professional musician for nearly two decades at venues throughout the Lowcountry. His band Steel Petals has released multiple albums. Several of his songs were featured on MTV reality series. He owns and operates a professional recording studio. As of Winter 2022, his band began recording his first rock opera, slated for completion in the next year.

Dr. Ohlson is a Fellow of The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Board Certified by The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a member of The American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society and the South Carolina Medical Association. He also serves as a member of the South Carolina LLR Orthopaedic/Podiatry Oversight Committee appointed by the Governor.

He is a published author of journal articles, book chapters, and online review articles. His research in the past has focused on implant design for complex hindfoot fusions and rehabilitation protocols for total knee replacement. He has been a featured speaker and moderator at the AAOS annual international meeting. He continues to serve as a reviewer for Foot and Ankle International. He has been reviewing articles for this prestigious journal for the past 13 years.
