MLS Laser Therapy

What is MLS?

  • MLS stands for Multi-Wave Locked System.  The MLS Therapy Laser treats pain, inflammation, and arthritis.
  • Laser therapy was cleared by the FDA in 2002 and is currently being used by a variety of medical specialties, as well as professional sports teams, including the Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Cavaliers.
  • The laser can penetrate 3-5cm deep and generates no heat.  There are no known harmful effects.

How Do Lasers Work?

  • Laser energy stimulates the removal of toxins from the cells and allow oxygen into the cell.
  • MLS Laser Therapy can decrease healing time by 30-40%.
  • The MLS Laser stimulates your body’s cells to jump start the body’s own healing process.
  • Like an antibiotic, each treatment is cumulative in its effectiveness, building off the previous treatments.
  • Patients will need a minimum 6 treatments depending on the level of pain.
  • While laser therapy is among the most advanced technology in all of medicine, it is too new to be covered by insurance.  The good thing is that it is non-invasive, an alternative to addictive pain medications, and maybe an alternative to surgery in some cases.

MLS Laser Therapy can be used to treat the following conditions:

Arthritis & Bursitis Repetitive Motion Injuries Occupational Injuries
Backache & Sciatica Hip, Knee, & Lumbar Pain Sprains & Strains
Rotator Cuff Tendonitis Achilles Tendonitis Sports Injuries
Neck & Shoulder Injuries Epicondylitis Heel & Foot Pain

Speed Healing with Regenerative Robotic MLS Laser Therapy

Now at Charleston Sports Medicine’s Physical Therapy, MLS Laser Therapy is an exciting addition to the regenerative orthopaedics suite of therapeutic treatments.

The innovative and patented Multiwave Locked System (MLS) Therapy Laser was developed in an effort to produce an efficient and simultaneous effect on pain, inflammation, and edema safely. MLS technology delivers therapeutic wavelengths that produce greater anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, while enhancing the speed of healing.

The unique combination and synchronization of continuous and pulsed emissions characterizes MLS and distinguishes it from other therapy lasers. What does that mean for patients seeking pain relief?

MLS Laser Therapy helps Charleston Sports Medicine Physical Therapy relieve pain and restore lives. Simply put, patients can expect the following with MLS Laser technology:

  • MANAGEMENT OF PAIN
  • REDUCTION OF INFLAMMATION
  • FASTER RECOVERY & HEALING
  • ENHANCEMENT OF ORTHOBIOLOGIC TREATMENT RESULTS

“This emerging field of photobiomodulation is an important new science behind faster recovery and healing for patients with degenerative joint disease, patients seeing accelerated therapy with orthobiologics, and the treatment of chemo induced neuropathy,” says Bright McConnell, MD, Charleston Sports Medicine Regenerative Orthopaedics.

Most patients experience positive results in a few treatments, with the average course of treatment being 6 to 12 treatments depending upon diagnosis. Swelling is greatly reduced and there is rapid relief of pain. Acute conditions subside within one phase of treatments, while chronic conditions can be controlled with regular treatments. When a physical condition or injury affects mobility or quality of life, there is one goal: A rapid, pain free return to every-day activities. MLS Laser Therapy is a painless treatment that lasts an average of 8 minutes. The effects of MLS Laser Therapy are cumulative; therefore, it is critical that you complete the course of treatments recommended to avoid symptoms returning.

Charleston Sports Medicine Regenerative Orthopaedics’ newest technology is housed in the Charleston Sports Medicine Physical Therapy center located on Daniel Island. Call 843-284-5200 to schedule your therapy consult.
