Charleston Sports Medicine is excited to welcome a new provider to their team. Board-certified Eric Friedman, MD, has extensive experience in sports medicine, which started and grew with his education. He graduated from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem with his undergraduate degree and continued his education at Wake Forest School of Medicine.

During his years at Wake Forest School of Medicine, he earned multiple awards for his research, missions, treating the underserved, volunteer work, and being the most valuable member while serving as the athletic rep for the school’s sports teams. He has treated various Division I athletes and worked in sports medicine clinics to help diagnose and treat multiple complaints by utilizing ultrasound and injections.

After graduating with his MD, he completed his residency in the Emergency Medicine unit at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. He worked in the Sports Medicine Department as their Resident Physician for all sports teams. In 2017, Dr. Friedman identified and treated Baltimore Marathon runners with various illnesses, including heatstroke and hypothermia.

After his residency, he became a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellow at Duke University Hospital. He served as a team physician for sports at Duke University, Elon University team doctor, and team physician for a local high school football team. He also covered all teams participating in the 2021 CAA women’s basketball tournament, treated athletes at Umstead 100 Ultramarathon, and provided coverage for the athletes at the 2021 NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament.

Since moving to Charleston, Eric has been working as an Attending Emergency Medicine Physician at Trident Health Systems. He is excited to take his experience to Charleston Sports Medicine, where he will utilize orthobiologics and other treatments to keep patients active and out of the operating room.

Originally from New York, Dr. Friedman and his wife now reside on Daniel Island with their dog and are excited to have moved to Charleston. His professional experience in sports medicine makes Dr. Friedman a fantastic addition to the team at Charleston Sports Medicine. Patients can make appointments with Dr. Friedman as soon as January 7, 2022.
